Which Relative Pronoun Should You Use?

Knowing which relative pronoun to use when building a relative clause can be tricky, however, there is a trick to it. Practise with the ten questions below and enter the words, 'who', 'whose', 'whom', or 'which' in the blanks provided. Please don't use spacing in your answers.

1. Jane has a cat. The cat is fat.
         Jane has a cat _______ is fat.
         

2. Douglas is a member of the track team. He is a fast runner.
         Douglas, _______ is a fast runner, is a member of the track team.
         

3. Tom likes to read. I have given a book to him.
         Tom, _______ I have given a book to, likes to read.
         

4. The dancer sprained her ankle. She is from Miri.
         The dancer, _______ is from Miri, sprained her ankle.
         

5. I ate the cupcake. Carol had baked it for Tom.
         I ate the cupcake ______ Carol had baked for Tom.
         

6. The thief stole the car. It was parked outside.
         The thief stole the car _______ was parked outside.
         

7. Drucilla is my classmate. Her mother drives a red car.
         Drucilla, ________ mother drives a red car, is my classmate.
         

8. Dan drew a portrait of Suzy. He gave the portrait to her.
         Dan drew a portrait of Suzy, ______ he gave the portrait to.
         

9. Tom has to train hard. His team lost the game.
         Tom, ________ team lost the game, has to train hard.
         

10. Carol spilled the soup. She tripped over the cat.
         Carol, ________ tripped over the cat, spilled the milk.
