There was once a man,

Who had great ambition,

His heart was wooed when,

He met his perfect woman.

Soon they were overjoyed,

On learning she had conceived,

But sickness gripped the new mother,

And sorrows came soon after.

So when the child was born,

The man was left alone,

To settle his enormous debts,

To raise a newborn babe.

A friend came to his rescue,

Though in return he asked,

That the man give him the son,

To raise and call his own.

The man had to agree,

For the otherwise was no life,

So he returned with his friend,

To serve in a large white mansion.

As the boy came of age,

The man he grew to despise,

For he was shamed that a servant,

Should had come to his graduation.

When the man's friend died,

The man was promptly fired,

But a lawyer to the boy explained,

What his father's Will contained.

The boy was enraged,

The man's hands were tied,

By the promise he had demanded,

And one that his friend had honored.

So he built a small shack,

In the yard out back,

And the lawyer declared,

The the Will's conditions were met.

The man lived there for years,

And watched his son's comings,

To the end of his days,

From breaks in the hedges.

There was once a man,

Who had great ambition,

He gave it all up,

For he could not bear to part.
