For 405 x 3 = 1215
where 5 x 3 = 15 (bring down the 5 and put up 10 above 00)
then 0(0) x 3 = 0(0), add 1(0) to this
Then 4(00) x 3 = 12(00), so you add 12(00) + 1(0) + 5 = 1215
