Fraction is very similar to division, but instead of having a fixed number of object to divide, you have to think of it in terms of a single object, eg. a cake or a pizza, that has to be cut out in portions. Hence 1/2 (numerator/denominator) of a cake is the same volume as 2/4 of a cake. In the real world, if you divide the cake into more portions, then you will get smaller pieces. In other words, the larger the denominator, the smaller the portions become. However, the larger the numerators, the larger the volume becomes.
